Where to Eat & Drink: A Culinary Journey
1. Sauzal’s Seafood Delights
Sauzal is historically renowned for its fishing community. Don’t miss Japas – tapas and cocktails inside the lobby of hotel Punta Morro, run by Chef Quindere. For a more upscale experience, try the hotel’s main restaurant with a Michelin mention. Explore Escama Cafe, Wendlandt tasting room, Murahiro omakase, Aguamala brewery and tasting room. Also, street food like fish taco stands are well known, like “El Jalisciense”. Don’t want fish? Try El Flamazo or El Trailero tacos. For wine, check out Solar Fortun Ocean Deck. Something important to mention is that the beach Tres Emes is also part of an international surfing reserve and home break to many local surfing athletes.
2. San Miguel’s oceanview breakfast
San Miguel’s oceanfront restaurant is perfect for a relaxed breakfast with mimosas. You can also enjoy a walk afterwards along the San Miguel State park which is also part of an international surfing reserve where pro surfers from all over the world come to enjoy the local waves. There’s also a small “fondita” where you can buy burritos and sandwiches after a good surf session on the weekends.
3. Playa Hermosa’s Casual dining
Playa Hermosa’s dining scene is more laid-back, with small cafés and seafood shacks offering fresh catches of the day. Seafood, burguers and pizzas at Capitan Caguama is a must-visit for those looking for a beachy sunset vibe.
4. El Malecon’s Vibrant Scene
El Malecon is the heart of Ensenada’s culinary scene. Muelle 3 is a must right next to the fisherman’s monument.
Close to it is Hussong’s Cantina, one of the oldest bars in Mexico, is a great spot for a drink and some live music like mariachis and northern bandas.”
